The news coming out of the Premier League after eight games is not the resurgence of the Manchester United, but the complete and utter domination of the league by their local rivals: Manchester City.
City has dominated the eight games so far with some scintillating and attacking football, swift link-up play, great goals, brilliant passes. The club is ahead of rivals Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool by nine points. However, the biggest news is that they scored 29 goals in just eight games and only drew once.
The eight games included some noteworthy games against rivals. City hammered Liverpool 5-0, followed by thrashing Watford 6-0, and another 5-0 hammering of Crystal Palace. The team has been ruthless. It was, however, a brilliant display against Chelsea that got them the tag of title favorites for this year.
Most of the credit should go to Pep Guardiola. The manager has transformed the team into an aggressive juggernaut built around a group of stars. Most of the players in the team are now in the best form of their lives thanks to the changes by Guardiola. Also, he replaced the aging backline with new fullbacks who are defensively playing extremely well.
The star player and probably the best player in the Premier League is Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian only has a single goal and five assists to his name so far but is, without doubt, the player that city needed. The team is on a tear and has a lethal combination that should take it all the way.
