For various reasons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are ranking outside the top ten in the season so far. This has allowed some new names to enter the top ten, including an African as Europe’s top performers. The player’s scores are calculated by WhoScored based on goals scored and goal assists.
Ronaldo, who is also Portugal’s captain, has been struggling to regain his form after an extended break due to injury. As a result, he has only scored one goal so far in the La Liga. This has him far outside the top ten this year, according to WhoScored, who have given him just 6.97 points. Lionel Messi, who has 7.89 points also failed to make the top ten.
The ranking is led by Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min. He has scored four goals in just four Premier League matches and assisted in two strikes. He has 8.83 points.
FC Barcelona’s Neymar (8.19) and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (8.16) round out the top three.
The look of the top ten is expected to change when both Messi and Ronaldo regain their form. It is still early in the season. However, if they do not, it could spell trouble for upcoming national team matches.
