Massimo Luongo has been a surprise inclusion in the list of 59 names that are running for the prestigious Ballon D’Or award.
In backing the Argentine, Luongo said, “Obviously I think it’s between Ronaldo and Messi. I don’t know how they pick it. If they pick it on stats and based on figures and everything then Ronaldo will win it but I think Messi deserves it. I think he’s just beyond everyone else.”
The list, in question, appeared in question for the award and which included QPR’s Luongo, Arsenal’s keeper Ospina and the winger from Bournemouth Atsu along with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Neuer.
Luongo has only recently emerged as a key player for Australia while being the only one playing second division club football on this distinguished list.
So, it should come as no surprise that he does back himself to win the Ballon D’Or. This is because Ronaldo has surpassed Raul as Real Madrid’s topscorer while Messi continues to break records of his own.
When asked about his surprise nomination to the list, he clearly mentioned that he doesn’t see himself getting any further but feels honored to be included in the first place.
He also adds why, in saying, “Not many people get to do it so I’ll just take it and enjoy it. I’m really happy with what I’ve done at the moment.”
Finally, when asked as to which of these superstars that he’d like play alongside, Luongo picked Messi over Ronaldo.
