Carlo Cutropia, Iker Casillas’ agent, has confirmed the Madrid goalkeeper’s desire to move to Portuguese giants, Porto, for the remainder of his career.
In speaking with Spanish newspaper Marca, he said, “An offer from Porto exists and Casillas is enthusiastic with that possibility. Now we have to wait to see what Real Madrid say.”
There’s no doubt that the last two years have been difficult for Real Madrid and Spain’s captain and which is why it is almost certain that the 34-year old goalkeeper will take the offer.
Alternatively, Madrid wants to bring David De Gea from Manchester United and which is why Casillas is eager to avoid the situation when it comes to deciding who should start.
His agent also spoke with Portuguese newspaper, Record, and said, “Real Madrid has the offer and knows what Casillas’ wish is. At this point we are trying to find common ground.”
This is despite Casillas having two years on his contract with Los Blancos. Marca reveals that the goalkeeper will be allowed to leave as a ‘free agent’ and after which, he can sign a two-year contract with Porto.
Of course, in order for the deal to go through, Madrid will have to make his departure easier by paying his high wages.
Speaking of which, Casillas makes about 6.5 million Euros per year and Porto are not willing to pay more than half of his wages. Clubs like Fenerbahce, Roma and Valencia have shown in the goalkeeper.
Ever since making his debut with Real Madrid in 1999, Casillas has won two Copa Del Rey crowns, three Champions League trophies and five Primera Division titles. Apart from this, he has also won the European Championships twice and a World Cup with Spain as well.
