Pep Guardiola the Head coach for Bayern Munich praised Joshua Kimmich. The young star was able to fend off Javier Hernandez and Stefan Kiessling, in the 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen late this week.
The midfielder, who is only 20 years of age, is in his 5th Bundesliga season. The star who had to fill in for Jerome Boateng’s injury, worked well alongside Holger Badstuber.
“Kimmich turned in an exceptional display in central defence,” The coach informed the club’s official website.
“Kiessling and Chicharito didn’t have any chances. He did very well, a huge compliment!”
On his team’s performance, Guardiola added: “In the first half we had a few problems passing the ball three, four or five times in a row.
“We did a good job after the break. We were more consistent in the second half.”
This kept the Bayern 8 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund. This happened after Borussia Dortmund also had to settle for a goalless draw in their game at Hertha Berlin.
Badstuber the centre back left the match regretting that his team was unable to take all 3 points which would have extended their lead putting them on top of the table.
“It wasn’t easy,” said Badstuber. “It was an intense and aggressive match. There were many fouls, many interruptions. But overall we had the better chances. If we had made better use of them we would have left the pitch as winners. We could have taken three big points here.”
