Barcelona was denied any speculation of a world record transfer of Neymar to Manchester United while also confirming that they will extend his contract.
Sky sources are aware of the fact that Manchester United have the transfer funds and wage structure to buy Neymar but have been discouraged from making a bid after they made inquiries recently.
In particular, Josep Maria Bartomeu has made it clear that there will be no move for the Brazil forward. Instead, he will be offered a long-term contract at the club.
Speaking with the Catalan radio station, Catalunya Radio, he said, “Those are just rumors and what people write but there is nothing to it. Neymar is happy at Barca. We don’t want Neymar to leave at all. He is a young player that has an international football projection above the norm. He has helped us a lot in our recent successes.”
He also mentioned that his contract extension will be discussed in a few months even if he has three years left on his current deal. It was clear that Neymar will stay for as long as possible probably extending up to another 10-15 years or so.
Neymar’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, also confirmed this by telling GloboEsporte that there is nothing to these rumors as he has three years on his contract anyways. He also mentions that British newspapers are very “speculative” but Barcelona has never spared a thought to selling Neymar.
The young forward scored 29 goals in Barcelona’s historic season where they completed their second treble ever.
